Three Utree Mentors Teach Presentation Workshops at Shanghai Jiao Tong University
This past May, three Utree students visited Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) to teach presentation skills to graduate students and senior design students. Making the trip were Ashley Krupa (ChE), Johanna Hatzell (ISE), and Mike Houser (ME). Ashley, Johanna, and Mike helped teach a research presentations workshop to graduate students and provided individual consultations with the participants. In addition, the three Penn State students ran a class period and critique session for senior design students in SJTU’s School of Mechanical Engineering.
According to Michael Alley, the faculty advisor for Utree, “Ashley, Johanna, and Mike did an excellent job in their teaching. With their example presentations in the workshops, they earned the respect of the older students, and in their consultations, they imparted excellent advice.”
During the visit, Ashley, Johanna, and Mike lived on the SJTU campus. They ate the local foods, mastered the use of chopsticks, and visited sites in Shanghai, which has 23 million people. One site was the Bund, which is a cluster of grand buildings situated along the east bank of the Huangpu River. Another was the Oriental Pearl Tower, which rises more than 1500 feet on the west side of the Huangpu.
